The EMF staff
consists of the Director, Richard E. Edelmann, Ph.D., the EM specialist, Matt Duley, M.S., 2 graduate teaching asssitants and 2 undergraduate lab technicians. The staff has a diversity of experience and specializations covering a wide range of microscopic imaging techniques for both biological and non-biological specimens. The staff oversees all equipment maintenance and instruction including undergraduate and graduate level courses in TEM and SEM. The facility is accessible to qualified users 24 hours-a-day.

Richard E. Edelmann, EMF Director, is also a Botany Instructor (Botany Department)and an Affiliate Faculty member of the Zoology Department at Miami University. His interests center on all aspects of microscopy and ultrastructural imaging, including light microscopy (LM), transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM & SEM), and scanning probe microscopies (SPM, STM, & AFM). In addition to conventional specimen preparation and imaging techniques, his work involves (1) developing and studying cryo-preservation techniques for biological specimens and (2) developing a high resolution digital imaging and analysis network within the Electron Microscopy Facility.
